Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why do injuries happen?

There are two main types of injuries - acute and overuse.

Acute injuries happen suddenly, such as a slip or a fall. Examples are ankle sprains and fractures.

Overuse injuries occur from an overload of a body part and happen garadually over time. Examples are tennis and golfer's elbow, stress fractures and rotator cuff tendinopathies.

  • Can physiotherapy prevent injuries?

Yes, injuries can be prevented by addressing the known risk factors such as muscle strength and flexibility and technique.

At Refined, your physiotherapist can prescribe you an injury prevention program specific to your occupation or sport.

Having regular physiotherapy sessions, just like servicing your car, can help to address any areas of imbalance in your body and prevent injuries from happening.

  • What can I do to prevent an injury from coming back?

    - Follow your rehabilitation plan given to you by your physio; even if you no longer have pain, it is still important to finish your rehabilitation.

    - Do the basics well, eat, sleep and hydrate to help your body recover well.
